what is MLD?

You might be surprised by the profound benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), a gentle yet incredibly effective “massage” technique (I’m sort of hard pressed to call it massage, and if you’ve received it, you’d understand why). It's a very light, rhythmic approach specifically designed to encourage the natural flow of lymphatic fluid throughout your body.

So, what is Lymph? As one teacher put it, it’s “water with stuff in it”, leftover from interstitial fluid. Your lymphatic system works along side your cardiovascular system. It's a complex network of vessels, nodes, and organs that work to maintain fluid balance, preventing swelling (edema) by collecting excess fluid, proteins, and cellular debris from your tissues and returning them to your bloodstream.

Your lymphatic system is also a key part of your immune system - surveying, identifying, and fighting off pathogens.

While not exhaustive, some of the benefits people experience with MLD include immune support, pain relief, anxiety and stress relief, reduction of swelling and redirection of fluid (if indicated in the case of lymphedema or post surgical swelling).

In short, receiving MLD treatment as an adjunct therapy is a wonderful way to support your body's natural healing processes and promote overall well-being.
